Gain Popularity at a Bargain Price. Superior traffic-generating software.
| What can visitors do at your site, and why should they tell their friends about it? | At my other site, I have downloaded, installed, modified, written, tested, and deleted hundreds of cgi programs, so you don't have to. The ones that remain are ones that: - Generate traffic;
- Retain visitor loyalty;
- Invite a visitor response;
- Promote the theme of my site;
- Use minimal system resources;
- Are secure from basic h*cking attempts;
- Are easy to maintain.
Why are these points important? Games, chat rooms, discussion boards and competitions cause vistors to tell their friends about your site. If they can make friends at your site, even better. Word-of-mouth is the best advertising. Any unusual feature will make your site more likely to be linked to. Why? Because there are so many dull, 'vanilla' sites out there. There's no competition! If it gets linked to, its 'link popularity' will shoot up in the search engines. This makes it more likely to come nearer the top of the search results. Also, more links means more visitors. You can set up autoresponders, discussion boards and FAQ pages to handle routine queries. This frees you to get on with making a better product. Mailing list software can subscribe and unsubscribe visitors to your email newletter. This newsletter would be sent out as regularly as can be justified i.e. when you have something more to say than just 'buy my goods!'. The argument for simple programs is this: programs which require SQL databases, for example, cannot be transferred easily to another web-host. If your site gets trashed, or your web host lets you down, you can't just ftp the backup to a new server, and re-install it in a day, unless your webmaster is a hot-shot. Programs with a lot of code run more slowly; fine if you're on a fast server, annoying if your web-host transfers you to a slower box because your site's getting too popular. It happened to me. That's why my chat rooms and discussion board are so 'lean'. NOTE: In the case of those programs which are not free, you will purchase them and forward them to me for installation. This establishes your ownership of the software immediately, saves time, and my billing you later. Traffic-Generating Software. Chat rooms. Another good chat script is the one at e-scripts.com. When it gets busy it's a server-hog, however. Discussion boards. Another good board is Ikonboard. Mailing lists. Games. Lotteries. Fees excludes the cost of the software itself. It's mainly free or low-cost. The 'holy grail' of an ecommerce web-site is one where everything is automated. If you are spending hours a day answering queries or fulfilling orders, you need to automate more. I'll grant you it's not easy. Working on your own, it can take you years. The main stumbling block for an internet businessman is the software. There are thousands of programs, both server and client-based. To sift though the sludge to find the gold takes time. And believe me, there are a lot of buggy programs out there. The first shopping cart program I ever bought forced me to learn Perl to debug it. Oh, I almost cried that day, when I uploaded the wretched thing, and found it didn't work. Oh, I laughed a bitter laugh when I found, weeks later, that it wasn't my fault, but that of the software. With my help, you can avoid all of that toil, and get on with the fun stuff; optimising your site for visitor enjoyment, utility, and loyalty. The good news is, that the programs I use, and that you can use too, are often free, or cost under $100. If you buy a program I suggest, and we subsequently can't get it to work on your server, the cost may be deducted from my fees, at my discretion. It's a win-win situation!
